Announcing Southwest Virginia Ballet’s Community Auditions for the 35th Anniversary of The Nutcracker at the Berglund Performing Arts Theatre!
WHAT: Auditions for Community members to perform as mice, soldiers, party guests and more
WHO: Dancers and performers ages 10 – 18
- Groups will be identified by age, height, and gender.
- The audition process will include instructed age-appropriate movement sequences.
WHEN: Auditions will be held on Sunday, August 24, 2025 from 1:30 PM – 4:00 PM
WHERE: Auditions held at Star City School of Ballet, home of SVB (1005 Industry Ave. #7A SE Roanoke, VA 24013)

The Nutcracker performance dates are Friday December 12 at 10:00 AM and 7:00 PM, Saturday December 13 at 3:00 PM and Sunday, December 15 at 3:00 PM at the Berglund Center Performing Arts Theatre.

Southwest Virginia Ballet (SVB), an award-winning, pre-professional ballet company, and we want YOU to be a part of our most popular holiday tradition!
The Nutcracker is a timeless holiday tradition, the best-known of all ballets. Each year SVB’s performance hosts a cast of more than 100 dancers, 200 costumes and 400 accessories! To take part in this production is to share the stage in one of Roanoke’s most cherished artistic events and time-honored holiday traditions of Virginia’s Blue Ridge.
Southwest Virginia Ballet is beginning its 35th year with a new Artistic Director Laurence Blake and dozens of dancers! Company members travel from all over Southwest Virginia to train each Saturday from August to June. Company membership, instruction and costumes are provided free of charge. Membership is based on demonstrated skill level and is open to all dancers. Southwest Virginia Ballet strives to maintain a diverse and cohesive company; therefore, we do not discriminate in our casting practices.
